Fort Custer XC 09 Race Report

Saturday was so nice I was trying to come up with a good Sunday ride for Billy and I. Some friends were going to race at the Fort so with the warm sunny temps it was a pretty attractive option. Plus Billy races for $10 and I follow him so it's cheap too. So I surprise him Saturday night with the invite to race Sunday. He was game as usual.

After being parked in total organization by the Michigan National Guard, we registered. At that time the 10 slots in his all children under 10 age group had been filled. So he was the 11th to register with nearly 2 hours to race time. The class ended up having close to 15 give or take and it was a healthy looking group with some real tall 10 year old girls which made the boys look pretty weak by comparison.

Gears + Mud = Deserve Thanks

To all the Pro's, Semi-Pro's, Wannabe Pro's and even the beginner gearheads for donating your gear to clear the mud off the Pontiac Lake trail for the single speed class this weekend. I have to take back everything I have ever said about the gearheads they do serve a purpose in the larger scheme of things.. mud clearing and mud hauling. Of coarse after all that praise and I wouldn't want it to go to your heads, I should balance that with a little criticism you could have done a better job on that sink hole.

Barry-Roubaix Race Report

It was colder then I thought it would be, but only had to drop my jacket and hat mid race. I think the booties where a good choice. The vibe was a good one I suppose it always helps racing in your backyard, a lot of the big boys showed up every bike and every set up you could think of (Cyclocross I think was the wise choice).

I raced the beginner race feeling I could only handle the 19 miles at this point in my 09 season, a lot of gravel, few miles on paved and a few on two track, and one hill after another and another (one I think even measured 9/10 of a mile toward the end). The race started out as usual trying to figure out who I needed to concern myself with (a little concerned about looking like a sand bagger, its seemed like most just picked a millage they were comfortable with).
