Rear View Mirror

Nothing exciting for me to report, not buying or building any new bikes so I will update my heart and lung activity for the last couple weeks.

Two weeks ago was a easy/recovery week these happen every three to four weeks. This time I just cut everything in half mileage wise so I got around a 100 miles on the singlespeed and a 5 mile run. I have found this to be a lot easier than trying to do easy rides and pay attention to my intensity levels and duration, which I am a complete failure at...

This last week I was back to ab normal.

Sunday - MangoMon and I did a gravel grinder ride 40 miles.
Monday - 40.41 miles on the singlespeed.

Hot and Wet

That title could be for a PRON movie but it really describes my week in review. This was the hottest week that I can remember at least according to the heat index and the humidity was just insane.

Monday: 45.27 miles on the singlespeed including 2 hours in a hard rain, swam for a 1/2 hour.
Tuesday: 8 mile run, humidity was 93% when I left hard to breath.
Wednesday: 16.92 miles on the singlespeed it started to rain and I turned around and headed home.
Thursday: 34.10 miles on the singlespeed, 3 mile run ... this was a ride run ride brick.
Friday: 41.70 on the singlespeed.

When in doubt FLOP it out

While riding home from todays ride I stood up to drop the hammer and all I got was a CRUNCH. I stopped to take a look at the source of the racket and noticed the freewheel shell was cracked in half.

This was a original part and had about 3500 miles on it and probably one of the cheapest freewheels ever made in China.

It was hot with a heat index of around 100 and I was only a few miles from home. I thought I could limp it the rest of the way but after a quick test that wasn't going to happen then I remembered "When in doubt FLOP it out" a quick flip of the rear wheel, I was FIXED and back in action.
