6 & 12 Hours of Pando Report
8/16/2008
What a fun day and night for some single speed racing. There were 155 people racing that created a very festive atmosphere just another fine Fun Promotions event and the Moe's at the end of the night was awesome.
The single speed 12 hour class was the largest with 14 entries, the 6 hour class with 3 (all members here and from the east side). But there were so many teams flying around there on single speed, some with kits louder than others you could hardly keep track.
The Pando coarse was a challenging 4.2 miles (it felt larger), a little bit of everything mud, sand, single track, 2 track and of coarse a ski hill climb to get things rolling. You could not nod off on this coarse or it would bite you as some of us found out, some bitten harder than others.
Wayne Cook rose to the top of the 12 hour field with 28 laps and even pulling the plug early when he could have went for 30. He lapped me on my 3rd or 4th lap and was running a pace I was wondering if he could hold up for the night and the answer was YES.
Bratney in typical rigid riding fashion was good for 20 laps. Me never feeling it on this night, I was down for 14 laps. J-bone making his painful team mysinglespeed debut had a crash that sent him to the pits early and napper not feeling the love rounded out the team spots.
Lots of east-siders on this night Junk, B.O.S.S., Chris Werth and Harding to name a few. Kevin, Bryan and the other Wayne rounded out the east side riders. Of coarse the west side single speed terrors were there too Dan Jansen and Nate Versluis were out there doing teams although I don't think that they were teamed together this year. Those guys attacking that hill after 11 hours was pretty amazing. reminded me of Neil Sr on our LJ pre ride he would just hammer and attack then do it some more... never let up.
I should also mention the youngsters out there. I think the youngest was the 8 year old, that boy has found the FUN. There were some teen agers out there doing some serious racing it was fun to see them getting after it.
Good Times by all.
