A fun weekend of MTB racing at Boyne Mountain for the July 10. The marathon XC race on Saturday starts at 10am (expect a 11-12 mile lap) Elite & Experts doing (4 laps), at 10:05am the Sport classes (3-laps)will start in 1 min waves per class then at approx 10:10am the beginner clsses (2 laps - 14 & under 1 lap)will get under way. At 3pm till 3:30 we have the kids Mini Marathon for kids 6 & under and for 7-12 year olds.
I will be marking the course on Wed July 7th. No camping at Boyne, like most high end resorts they want to put heads in beds (that's why they have worked with Fun Promotions for the last 18 years) so please support them as they support our great sport of mountain biking. For more info including on-line registration please visit http://funpromotions.com/07-10-10.html For mail in registration visit http://funpromotions.com/registration-forms/boynexcmar2010.pdf For lodging please call 1-800-go-boyne and mention the bike race for your discounted rooms or condos. Don't forget the waterpark, New zip lines or a round of golf...make a weekend out of it. I will also recommend that you consider a condo that offers 2-3 bed rooms and a kitchen so you can split the cost with some buddys or team mates and cook your own food.
Brent Walk
Sounds like a great time.
yeah, it was a great time. nothing I love more than tearing my legs off and running em through a meat grinder. I am just now getting back to walking normally. I saw a physical therapist for some trigger point and he remarked that my quads and hams seemed to be really tight around my knees. no kidding huh... I was running in a pack of about 15 guys halfway through the 1st lap feeling better than good. we had just closed in on a small group of SSer's from my class that had went out really hard. A couple of Sally guys behind me weren't happy with the pace and wanted by. I gave em a little room and caught a stick through my spoke. Just so happened to be where my valve stem was. sheered it clean off. Threw a new tube in and hit it with the inflator and was back on my way. Chased really hard, blew up, cramped. Stuck it out. finished 5th.
on another note, I felt like this years course was harder climbing wise than in the past. I ended up running a 32X18 gear and even though I was never able to put together a clean lap as far as running hills, I did manage to clean all the climbs at least once during the race. So I guess, this is going to be my new go to gear in the future. Now all I have to do is about a 1000 hill repeats before next years race and I should be plenty strong enough to go the distance.
The things we do for and call fun :) thanks for the report.
I will post the results as they come online.
just checked the standings and somehow, someway, even though I have seemed to have some sort of mechanical mishap just about every race I am somehow in 2nd place in the CPS overall. If my math is right after this past weekend I will be 2.5 pts behind 1st place...
