When in doubt FLOP it out
|
While riding home from todays ride I stood up to drop the hammer and all I got was a CRUNCH. I stopped to take a look at the source of the racket and noticed the freewheel shell was cracked in half. |
This was a original part and had about 3500 miles on it and probably one of the cheapest freewheels ever made in China.
It was hot with a heat index of around 100 and I was only a few miles from home. I thought I could limp it the rest of the way but after a quick test that wasn't going to happen then I remembered "When in doubt FLOP it out" a quick flip of the rear wheel, I was FIXED and back in action.
I have went back and forth about leaving that cog on the fixie side of the flip flop hub and the winning argument has always been if you ever blow the freewheel atleast up you will be able to ride home, a small price to pay for the extra weight.
I ended up with a little over 45 miles today.
