Yankee Springs TT 08 Report

Yankee Springs O8 TT

I was really hoping someone else would write up something so you don't get tired of my point of view.

First it was a great team turn out and we had atleast 12 team members and more from the site out at the race, it being the first race of the year for some and the first race ever for others. In total there turned out to be 66 in the SS class which was really a great showing.

We showed up Saturday for a FREE ride just to see what we would be riding terrain wise and to make sure we had a clue on tires and gearing. We were informed that the race would be running backwards when we arrived we had never ridden it before so no big deal. The temps were maybe mid 70's and coming from the freezing temps the weekend before seemed a little warm for the first time this year. We took a easy lap and thought the trail was in great condition, well maintained and flowing.

As race day came about there seemed to be a little confusion with starting times and warming up but I think everyone was warmed up and to the gate in time. As I left the gate there was about 4 miles of clean trail in front of me as I starting reaching the climbs they were starting to stack up from the previous class, granny g.ears and hike a bike galore. To be honest I didn't even think about it since I thought it was a time trial, and didn't think about the fact they had been packing 600 people into the trail every 15 seconds for 2 hours.

I rode through some of the riders and was forced to dismount and hike a bike myself while doing that I got freight trained by a couple groups. At that point I decided that I should really take this all in and chalk it up to inexperience. I started taking note on how riders where getting around these other slower riders. I ended up just following one of the women that had been about run off the trail on a couple of occasions.

My time was very poor but really matched the effort I put in, I did learn quite a bit, I think when its all said and done. Looking forward to the next one and better results for sure.

At the end of the day it was a fun weekend a great day of racing. I want to thank everyone that came out and the people who took the time to put on the race and all the volunteers. Awesome Job!
