Huewood and genxer both rode in their respective Expert age groups. I'm unsure if Hugh was on his SS or not, but genxer was rocking gears.

I'm curious about the gearing for the guys at the pointy end of the race. I finished 10th riding a 63 inch gear and that was too small on Saturday. Any ideas?

Im not sure what #5 Wayne Cook (natural born spinner) ran this year but last year he ran 58GI for a top 5 he backed it up again this year. I talked with #6 Geoff Kuyper (says he is a spinner) about the Lalond brothers gearing last year and he said on there blogs they were posting low 60's and that they prefer to spin.
There is also a heavy dose of gamesmanship and disinformation going when it comes gearing especially come race day. Common conception seems to be go bigger and stand on it longer. IMHO I think spinning and holding a very high cadence (100rpm + ) is the answer.
Thanks. Geoff is a teammate and helped me out this year with gearing. Pretty sure he rode a bigger gear than me this year. But by the way Weinert and Dan Klein attacked by the middle school they were standing on something big. I spun my way into the chase group of 8 (which Wayne was pretty much driving) but I couldn't sustain it and got popped off the back.
I would bet the year that Neil Jr (natural born masher) won it he was mashing 65+

Not that I was at the "pointy" end (11th in the birth to 39 group), but I was running 65 gear inches. If I recall correctly, 2 years ago when Jesse Lalonde placed 5th in the Pro class, he was running something like 68 gear inches.
