If I were going to guess, I would say apple cider was probably the first alcoholic drink humans made. After all, apples sometimes ferment on their own, so making a drink out of them would be a natural next step.

Anyway, we tried making apple cider and it was easy. All it took was putting the apple juice in a big bottle with brown sugar and yeast, letting it ferment, and then bottling it. It made a light, delicious drink with a deceptively big kick—the alcohol content comes to around 6%.
