Me and Billy are in. Although Billy hasn't been riding much this last month. But as long as he's there I have double the chance of winning some good swag.

That might be a good idea and the temps are right up my alley

On second thought I don't want to spend 5 hours driving for a hour race.

Kisscross Holland 12/14/08

I was really worried about the course conditions this weekend. After getting 12+ inches of snow, the weather warmed into the 40's and we received quite a bit of rain the night before the race. The rain stopped just as I was loading the car to head to Holland. Just to be safe, I threw the KM on the rack w/2:1 on it just in case it was a total slop-fest. I set up the Bianchi for the easiest gear I have for it, 42:18, and 35 psi.

Once at the course I bumped into Zilla and 73LJ. Tim brought a CX virgin to the mayhem, a strong roadie from a local shop. I got registered and downed the rest of my coffee. No preride, didn't even really see any of the course. I was racing B's, so I was really hoping everything wasn't tore up too bad. That hope was misplaced.

Rick started us out on a stretch of pavement (yay!). I took my customary CX tactic and brought up the rear. Might have been a bit of a mistake today. 100 yards of pavement and we're in a mud bog, then another 30 yards and we're climbing a decent sized flight of steps (!). So, I'm in the back of the back w/a bunch of misfits and trying not to take a wheel to the face on tiny little odd shaped concrete steps. Shortly after that we hit the first of many waaaaaaaaayyyyy off-camber sections.

Short aside on the course: apparently, the guy in charge of this stadium/park thing told the race organizers not to worry about tearing things up. I guess they redo the lawn every spring or something. That is the WRONG thing to tell CX racers. We tore the livin' sh!t out of the place!

Anyway, rode most of the course the first lap. Couple of flights of stairs, couple of really scary off camber sections, and lotsa mud pits. Then I figured out it was quite a bit quicker to run thru the deeper mud and off camber sections. Shortly after that I started picking people off, 2 or 3 at a time. Ramped it up a little each of the 6 laps, setting my sights on a person or 2 each section. Spent the whole time wondering when my xmas party hangover was going to kick in. Apparently Starbucks, Accelerade, and a 5 hr energy shot was an effective hangover cure. Finished the last lap really strong and took out a couple guys right at the end. Ended up 4th out of 40 in the men's B's.

Then I didn't win anything at the raffle.

I'll post pics when they are available.
