You are missing one of the better 100's in my opinion. Harder and more technical than the LJ. More variety of trails/roads and bigger climbs. What's not to like?

I'm thinking people are just being frugal. Someday I want to get down there and ride.

This will be my fourth year

This will be my fourth year in a row. There have been some problems with turn markings coming up missing or redirected but in a 100 mile loop you can't monitor the entire course. They give you a turn by turn route sheet in case you are unsure of where to turn.

Last year there was an issue with confusion on whether drop bags had to be ready the night before or morning of. And the case of Paula being forced to quit the race early. I think it is a lack of communication from promoter to workers. But overall the race has been well run. Most of the negative reports I've read have been for the early races, the two years before I started doing them.

There will be quite a few racers from Michigan there, including Jay Jones on SS.  Other racers registered that I know of:

Dustin Cheney  SS?

Greg Kuhn

Craig Morris

Danielle Musto

Mike Simonson

Christian Tanguy

There may be others as well that I missed.  The Men's Open class should be a good one as a lot of big names are there with Mike, Christian and Greg including Eatough, Schalk, Tostado and Lichtenwalner.
