I've found for smaller items. USPS is pretty much the way to go. Usually price is close enough that it's not worth it to me to go 15 miles to drop off at FedEx. BUT for frames and complete bikes. FedEX is the way to go! I just shipped my Sycip frame from FedEx. First went to the PO and they wanted ..... $107 for bulk rate 7-10 days. FedEx Ground for $47
The sub $15 boxed I send on a regular basis are worth just being able to walk or ride to the PO but come on. . . $60 difference?

I found out the same thing

I found out the same thing the hardway when shipping some bikes and frames this winter.

I use FedEx for just about

I use FedEx for just about everything. I opened an account with them to get an even cheaper rate.
