what gears do you run
I am new to this single speed thing, and well I also don't have a lot of money to work with. What chain ring and cog would you be running on a mountain bike converted for street training? Off road I was planning on running what sounds to be pretty standard 32 chain ring and16t cog. I planned on picking up the DMR STS tensioner, spacers and cog kit at Jensonusa.
Drivetrain
Race Face XC Crank 43/32/22 I could be off on the 43 chainring, maybe it is a 44
7 Speed Cassette
9 speed chain to remedy a chain clearance issue
I have more questions but I will start from here.
In general
Fat Tires off-road 52, 55, 58 GI (Gear Inches)
Skinny Tires on-road 65 - 72 GI
You can look at the 'tools page' and use the gear calculator for ring / cog combos for your wheel size.
For on-road, I run a 42 tooth Salsa chain ring, with a 16 or 17 cog on the back, depending on conditions. Call Napper at Terry's Cycle, it is the Michigan SS headquarters.
Sounds good post some picks when you get a chance.
