I blew out my Surly hub a couple of weeks ago and it's not fixable. So...... I'll probably buy a new hub and have Napper build it onto my existing rim, unless somebody has a decent 26" rear SS specific wheel they'd like to offer me. Anybody?

I'm pretty sure that 99% of users of this forum are 29er users though.

happened during the poto ttc. I think what ultimately caused it was the axel being bent..... that broke which caused the sealed bearing to become unsealed (crunch crunch crunch) and it led to about an inch or two of side to side play. To this point, I thought I'd be able to replace all the inards since Surly hubs are very rebuildable. However, the side to side play over 10 or so miles damaged the hub externally as well to the point that it won't sit in my frame properly. Gotta love it.... So yes - the hub shell is damaged.

tempting..... we'll see what else is out there. I'd kinda like to avoid another Surly hub. From day one those have given me nothing but trouble. Maybe the upgraded bearings make all the difference though.

Surly's are great hubs for

Surly's are great hubs for the money if you want a freewheel.... but you have to maintain them, the main thing is the cone adjustment, the phils bearings were just a plus.
