This the short version of the original thread I started at another site. I want to thank everyone who participated in that thread but I wont be able to recreate all your contributions.

Well I'm taking the leap... this was to be a winter project but my patience has already ran out, looking to have this together by the end of month Sept/05. So I can ride with Kim and Dan before they leave us :(

Ordered the 17" Hooligan frame in black from Soul Cycles

If you go the Surly hub route (which is a great way to go) get the Quick Release axle.
Also I really like White Industries freewheels, but if too much $ an ACS will work well too.

Thats the thing so many choices and I am not sure of the +/- 's. So I was just modeling popular systems.

The only thing that turns me off on the white freewheel is that everyone seems to be changing there gearing around a bit and at $80 a pop that wont be pretty.

I was thinking starting off at 36/18 I need easy in the beginning so I don't get turned off on the single thing. Does that sound reasonable on that gearing to start ? I am thinking since Iam riding PLRA most of the time there must be a trade off with gearing down for climbing and then spinning my ass off on the flats, or vise versa.

I do have a set of brand new mavic 317 disc's that came off my stumpy I could just buy the surly disc hub and spokes with some help restring the rear, and reuse the front.

Or what about the Surly Fixxer 1 Speed Hub Converter
This looks like I could stuff this in my existing shimano disc hub ?

hmm so many choices

If im in the mood to change something, Ill just swap out up front. I have a 34,36,and 38 tooth rings. Salsa rings run about 25.00 each.

Now that clears things up ...

One more question (for today) Andy if you are still around on the salsa rings which bolt pattern for this crank.

TruVativ Stylo Single Speed Crank
Salsa Chainring

are you familiar with this crank ?

I have a brand new pair of easton carbon low rise and a easton stem (120/0). I have just mounted them on my stumpy and they where no good on the test ride ...lots of vibration so I am going back to the stocks there.

So I thought I would give them a try on this bike with rigid fork and see what it is like.
I need to find the surly stainless chain ring 34t and a seat collar, HS spacers and thats it I believe, unless I come up short on crank bolts or something like that.

I would like to add a little bit of anodized color here and there... I will wait and see but I like.
